Chipping routes

I’ve been reading all the stuff about chipping routes lately, and I think no-one seems to get it.  I mean, if you get on a route, and you reckon you could do with another hold right there, then why not go and just chip a little one in?  You’d be doing most people a favour as they wouldn’t have to do the chipping themselves.  And anyone who doesn’t want to use it doesn’t have to, do they?  I mean it’s a free country, isn’t it?  The other day I got on this route at Cheddar, and it was a rockover, and seemed to go on for miles, and I reckon I could have done it if there was just a little bit of something to help my leg on its way over the tipping point.  That would have been great, chipped.
